How did you come up with the name PixelFish?
We like fish. They are smart, interesting animals with their own unique personalities. Fish have impressive long-term memories and sophisticated
social structures. Their cognitive powers match or exceed those of 'higher' vertebrates, including non-human primates. And they have evolved over millions of years, adapting to successfully thrive in an ever-changing environment. That's why the "Fish"!
"Pixel"? We have no idea.
What does PixelFish do?
We are a full-service video production company that helps you create and delivery easy and affordable video content.
Learn more About Us.
How long have you been in business?
We re-branded ourselves as PixelFish in April 2006. Prior to that, we were operating as the same company under a different name since 2001. The old name wasn't very memorable...
What are your office hours?
Our office hours are from 8:00am to 6:00pm PST Monday through Friday. Our offices are closed on weekends and on major US holidays.
Where are you located?
We are located in Torrance, just outside Los Angeles, which is home to the largest pool of quality video talent in the world.
Find us on our map!
But I'm nowhere near Los Angeles. Can you still produce my video?
Absolutely! As a matter of fact, more than 90% of our clients are located outside Southern California. Our worldwide network of videographers
allows us to capture content all over North America and abroad, without the added expense of flying in our L.A. crew. That would’ve just
added an unnecessary expense to your project. Learn more about Our Global Network.
What functions can you perform?
PixelFish performs all functions of video production including:
- Pre-Production - Creative development, scriptwriting, visual sequence development, and casting (if needed)
- Field Production - Capture of video content by our worldwide network of videographers
- Post-Production- Editing, music, graphics and professional voiceover
- Media Delivery- Solutions to reach the largest possible audience such as our proprietary online video streaming application, PixelStream™, as
well as Flash video, Beta SP, DVD and CD-ROM
Do you have a partner program?
Yes, we do! And it was specifically designed to fit the varying needs of all our potential business partners. You can find more information in our
Partner With Us section.
How much do your video solutions cost?
We get that question a lot. But it's kind of like asking, "How much does a computer cost?" PixelFish offers a wide variety of video solutions to fit budgets of all sizes. Our production process is specifically designed to take advantage of
digital technology, allowing us to streamline the process while still produce high quality videos at very affordable rates.

shooting/editing style, and other requirements.
Do you make TV commercials?
Yes, in fact, we’ve done many of them for our clients. Our videos are suitable for online, mobile and broadcast TV distribution.
How long should my video be?
Video length will depend on the content and purpose of your video. However, in most cases, we suggest our customers to keep their video under two
minutes, whenever possible.
Can I see samples of your work?
Of course! Check out the Our Videos section of our website to see some of our video samples.
Do you produce high-definition (HD) video?
Absolutely. It's becoming the standard for many of our clients. Our video consultants can help you determine if the additional cost is worth it for your project.
Have you done any videos for my industry?
We have produced videos for dozens of industries, including Academia/Education, Computers – Hardware & Software, Financial Services, Food & Beverages, Health Care & Pharmaceutical, Legal Services, Printing & Publishing, Professional/Business Services, Real Estate, Retail/Stores, Telecommunications, among several others.
Can you assist me to get my video on my Web site?
You bet! Whether you’ve selected PixelStream or our encoded Flash video file as your video’s delivery format, PixelFish will gladly walk you through
the process of uploading a video to your site.
What is the video production process like?
Video production is spilt into four phases: Pre-Production, Field Production, Post-Production, and Media Delivery. Learn more about Our Process.
How will your scriptwriters know what to write about my company?
The first step after placing your order is the Creative Brief. PixelFish will either email or send you a link to our online creative brief questionnaire, in
which we ask you to provide us with additional information about your company and your goals for your video. Once you have completed and
returned your creative brief questionnaire, we will schedule a conference call to discuss video concepts, script ideas, visuals, design elements and
scope of project. Our professional scriptwriters will then create the script for your video. Each draft of the script is sent by email for review and
feedback.
Are permits required for shooting on location?
Some cities charge for permits, others do not. Shooting on beaches is a guarantee of getting your permit checked. Permits can be expensive
($500-1,500). City workers, including lifeguards, check crews thoroughly.
Do you have insurance?
We have $1 million in liability coverage and all the equipment is insured for theft and damage. The liability policy covers any damage done to property by
those working for PixelFish.
What camera/sound/lighting equipment is used?
Our standard production package includes a broadcast-quality video camera with all the accessories, a sound package with both a small lav mic and a boom, and light kits with soft lights, gels, diffusion and assorted color correction. More extensive lighting, dollies and camera booms, and a full grip truck/packages are available for an additional charge.
Who will be working on my project?
Video production is a collaborative business requiring many specialists working together. One of our jobs is to put together the most qualified team
of professionals that fit your particular requirements and budget. All the people selected for your project are professionals in their particular area.
Of course, you will always have the opportunity to meet and/or speak with the production team members and assess them for yourself.
Will my boss be impressed with your crew?
Absolutely. Our crews arrive on time and work quietly and professionally. They are extremely creative and are onsite problem-solvers. And they wear
appropriate clothing! (Shorts and t-shirts work on the beach, but not in the boardroom. We understand that.)
What are some examples of typical mistakes you'll keep me from making?
One common mistake is trying to do too much with a single video. The most successful videos stick to conveying two or three main points. If you try
to tell your audience too much, they get confused. When they are done watching, they’re not sure what to do and what they are supposed to
remember. If you lose sight of the goal of your video, the audience will lose sight also. We'll keep that from happening.
Another common mistake is insufficient planning in the pre-production phase. This usually results in a lot of changes during the production and post-
production phases. Changes in pre-production are easy to do and cost very little. However, changes during production and post-production can be
very costly because they often mean reproducing segments of the video. One of our foremost jobs is to keep your project on time and within
budget. We do that by making sure the video is properly scripted, planned and produced.
How long does it take?
The typical timeline for producing a standard video project (up to two minutes in length) is approximately eigth to ten weeks. Of course, this timeline is dependent on
the response time from the client. For example, once we write the script and submit it for your review, we generally expect to receive your
feedback within three days. If you are unable to return the script within this time frame, your video’s turnaround time will increase. Conversely, if
you are able to quickly return revisions of the script and finished video, we may be able to shorten the timeline.
What are your payment terms?
Payment terms vary per product. Videos from our Ready Ad Library are prepaid. For all other projects, the customer has the option of paying
in full or paying in halves or thirds (depending on your project's size). The first of the payments must be made immediately after the order is placed and before we start working on your
video project. The second and/or third payments must be received in our offices once the script is approved and prior to delivering your
final video master.
